How many pounds of sand needed to fill this box?
It holds approximately 750 pounds of sand to fill it 6 inches deep.

What is the depth of the benches? I'd like to know how much space is left over the sand box once the benches are folded back. It seems quite small.

What is at the bottom of the sandbox? Do I need to purchase something to put down on the ground before installed?
It is recommend putting down a liner to separate the sand from the first you plan to place this at.

When the seats fold down are there still open air slats or is the sand covered completely?
There are open air slats when lid is closed. Mainly is meant to keep critters out of it when not in use (stray cats and such).

Can a 6 and an 8 year old child play together in it? Or is it for younger children?
My children are 8 and 4 and they played comfortably in this sandbox. They loved the benches!
